Writing from Japan

Dear Susie

I am writing from Japan to you.
I am having a great time here.
Japan is neat. People here are generally speaking
polite and detail-oriented,
which somehow reminds me Vancouver.
I meet the person that I am supposed to meet,
and we spend several hours together
laughing and arguing with each other,
and I feel like to cry when we say goodbye.
Tokyo is thus becoming a place
that is meaningful to me.
I wish you well, babe.

sincerely,
Susie

Hi Susie,

Glad to hear that the Tokyo trip is good. I became insanely busy and can barely keep up with my schedule. But I also start to miss you :)

So far my life has become very irregular, but on the other hand, the topic of white people in Taiwan, racism, orientalism and fetishism has become more and more of an issue for me. It is harder and harder for me to try not to come out as complete biased -- I understand that a lot of white people go to Asia to avoid the "reality" they face in the United States, and everyone needs a sanctuary at some point. But I cannot pay any sympathy to them, somehow, because I still feel they are consuming my culture and my people (think: Lost in Translation). I think I am biased, but have not found a good answer to persuade myself to think other way yet.

Anyways, talk to you soon =)

Dear Esther:

I think I understand what you say about the white people in Taiwan, racism, orientalism and fetishism. That is why I do not date white guys who do not understand Chinese culture to a certain degree. I find it is really hard to communicate with them about so many things that I really care about.

And I also understand what you talk about how white people come to Taiwan and take things here for granted. But I also think that many of them come here with lots of unfinished business (psychologically) in their lives and need to be cured.

And I agree with you, we are all biased, and it is important to be aware of it.

Hey, by the way, are you interested in provding some first hand cultural news in NY like you did in the last post about YunMeng? I want to write regularly about both NY and Holland (where my sister stays now). I know you are busy, so I would write it. Let me know. :)

Wash your curly hair at the very least two days in a week.

Before you go for them, try products at Keranique for hair care.
Both brands are popular in known hair salons and spas.

not much money which was just enough to support myself.
